Crypt Custodian has us tidying up the afterlife as a cat!
I never thought that when I made it to the pearly gates, I would be sentenced to an afterlife of janitorial duties, but here we are! The demo for Crypt Custodian is a delightful glimpse into the second game from Kyle Thompson, the developer behind the island-uniting metroidvania, Islets.
In this charming metroidvania about a cat cleaning up the afterlife, you play a kitty who is sentenced to an eternity of keeping everything spic and span. The action-adventure gameplay blends the exploration, puzzle-solving, upgrades to experiment with, and very clear to read combat signaling. I also particularly loved that this is a top-down metroidvania, rather than side-scrolling, which isn't something I think I've seen very often.
The combat also felt responsive and smooth. I felt like I was able to control exactly what my character was doing, and any errors made were ones I immediately saw how I could've done better or differently.
I played the heck out of Islets, and if this demo is any indication, I'll be doing the same with Crypt Custodian. Let me know what you think, my demo play-through is recorded below if you'd like to see it in action, and enjoy!
